The Park, Barrow -
  £1.25M facility redevelopment

Read on to find out how Pulse as principal contractor, is progressing with the £1.25 million renovation of The Park Leisure Centre in Barrow-in-Furness.

Barrow Borough Council has funded the £1.25 million improvement scheme and have appointed Pulse as 'principal contractor' to benefit from their extensive knowledge and expertise to design and build the new centre, supply state-of-the-art fitness equipment and provide sales and marketing support.

Pulse’ brief is to provide a modern, inviting leisure facility that will provide a range of fun, interactive and engaging sporting activities suitable for adults, children and families.

To ensure the brief can be achieved Pulse is maximising the current space available by redesigning the current layout and introducing a second floor landing that will house new adult and junior fitness suites.

Within the plans the transformed centre will also boast refurbished dry changing facilities, a 140sqm dance studio, a new reception area and an air-conditioned spectators area.

The project is anticipated to take 26 weeks to complete. Below, you can track the project from start to finish within our image gallery and read about the key project developments at each stage of the build.

Front Elevation

Construction of front elevation to present an impressive welcome to the renovated leisure centre. The front elevation mainly consists of tinted grey glazing to add light whilst reducing heat gain. The small curved entrance lobbying expands the current reception area and will be fully compliant with DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) standards providing inclusive access into and out of the leisure facility.

Youth Gym

Margaret Wilson Centre Manager at Park Leisure Centre comments "We recognised several years ago the opportunity for children to be involved in a gym environment, and have been running a junior session since 2003 that has proven to be very popular. Before the 2nd partnership with Pulse we had no spare space to provide a children’s area or the funds to expand. The partnership has given us the opportunity to cater for this market that we have wanted to do for some time."

To make space for the dedicated youth gym pulse created a third floor to house both the adult and youth gym, now the Park can offer a youth gym suitable for children aged 8 to 15 years. The new 106sq m youth gym called Club Max will boast a 26 station Vibe fitness equipment gym, 20 dance mats and an interactive wall.
