The £7 million investment in leisure facilities for Tameside involving Tameside Council, Tameside Sports Trust and Pulse is now well underway with The Copley Centre nearing completion and membership figures demonstrating a marked increase in membership.
The fitness facilities at The Copley Centre in Stalybridge were completed during the autumn of 2008 (images below) and include a 130 station fitness suite with disabled lift, a 24 station school fitness suite, a new dance studio and health suite and refurbishment of all existing facilities. The total overhaul of the centre is due to be completed in March 2009.
Figures from Tameside Sports Trust demonstrate that usage for the facility has increased dramatically since the redevelopment of the fitness suite at The Copley Centre with well over 400 new members joining in the three months since it opened.
The Copley Centre redevelopment has also been tracked live on Pulse’s website through the Project Tracker facility. This allows all interested parties to see the progress in a variety of different areas of the centre including the entrance, reception, changing areas and fitness suite.
Work at Ashton Pools has now commenced and is due for completion in 2009. The site is receiving a new 63-station fitness suite and changing rooms, new changing village for the pool and front entrance as well as overall refurbishment of the site (see 3D images below).
Neil Chaisty, Head of Tameside Sports Trust commented, “We are aiming to get 1,700 people a year active in Tameside. With Medlock already developed and Copley well on the way to completion we have, some fantastic facilities that will encourage increased participation in the local communities. Ashton Pools and Hyde Leisure Centre will also benefit from redevelopments during 2009 and our available facilities will be second to none.”
