Manchester City Football Club has recently installed a Lightspace Play Wall to help improve the reaction times of its goalkeepers. This is an innovative use of the product, which was launched in Europe by Pulse at LIW (Leisure Industry Week) earlier in 2008.
Paul Shinners, Commercial Director at Pulse Fitness and a former professional footballer said, “The two main goalkeepers at Manchester City FC are both young and so using this new technology, that is outside normal training regimes is a great way to speed up their reaction times. The Lightspace Wall can be set to a variety of different games and ability levels so as they improve their reaction times the training will become more challenging.”
Measuring 8 ft by 4 ft, the Lightspace Play Wall is as durable as its sister product the Lightspace Play Floor and can withstand pressure of up to 3000 lb. The surface is able to detect the location and force of players and objects, creating a realistic experience with instant feedback displayed on the wall or through sound effects.
“When you transfer the abilities of the product into a premier sporting environment it is able to offer significantly different types of exercise to traditional training. Reactions are very important to a goalkeeper as they can mean the difference between winning and losing a game. With younger keepers who are more in tune with electronic interaction this is a perfect product to compliment existing training.”
The Lightspace Play Wall has been installed at the new fitness suite at the training ground and is part of a million pound facelift of the Carrington training facility.
